Iris A. Espada is a Latina woman from the Island of Puerto Rico. She graduated from Cape Cod Community College with a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice. Iris is a former domestic violence counselor who moved to the mainland for better healthcare for one of her younger children. She encountered challenges of housing for her and her family, in many different situations, including one in which her building was sold to new property owners and shortly after her family received an eviction notice. After many encounters of this kind of housing situation she moved to a housing complex that was ordered to be demolished: Lyman Terrace. She organized tenants to stay in their homes and the units were renovated. She met Neighbor to Neighbor three years ago when Katie Talbot invited her to a meeting. She was able to see the vision for tenants, housing, environment, and criminal justice reform. Iris wants to help make change. Today she is the president of the Lyman Terrace Residential Association, a proud Member of Neighbor to Neighbor, and a member of the Board of Directors, inspired to keep fighting for social justice with her organization.
