José, a lifelong Holyoker, has been aware of systemic issues since a young age. His travels have solidified his belief that people are not the problem; the oppressive systems challenging our worth, paths, and power are the problem. José was elected City Councilor At-Large in Holyoke in 2021, winning his first-ever run for office and serving from 2022-2024. He also has experience in creation of programs as the former Manager of a Victim and Survivors Services program at Enlace de Familias. José has a background in the arts, education and social justice, earned a degree in Sociology from Bryant University, and became a member of Neighbor to Neighbor in 2020. Now, as the Community Organizer, he brings his passion for justice and community empowerment to the forefront, ready to make a positive impact.
