Katie Talbot is the Springfield Organizer at Neighbor to Neighbor Massachusetts. A lifelong resident of Western Massachusetts, Katie’s personal experiences have profoundly shaped her dedication to social justice and community empowerment.
Following a period of incarceration, Katie became aware of the systemic flaws within the criminal justice system. This pivotal moment began her drive towards advocacy and reform. Since 2010, she has been an active member of N2N, collaborating with the new majority to challenge existing power structures. Her efforts have been instrumental in campaigns such as Jobs Not Jails and initiatives to halt pipeline developments in Holyoke, reflecting her commitment to both social and environmental justice.
In her role as the Springfield Organizer, Katie leverages her lived experiences to amplify the voices of residents, steering the community toward a Just Transition. Her leadership was evident during the community-coordinated food distribution efforts, where she collaborated with Holyoke Media to address local needs.
Beyond her organizing endeavors, Katie is a staunch advocate for renters’ rights and protections. She has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at gathering information from Springfield renters to better understand housing quality and advocate for improved living conditions.
Katie’s unwavering commitment to justice and her community continues to inspire and drive meaningful change throughout Western Massachusetts.
